Box Office Results for August 7th to 9th

The weekend of August 7th through the 9th has come and gone, and now it’s time to take a look at how things went down at the box office. Since I despise dithering, let’s get right to it:

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (Weekend Gross) $56,200,000 (Total Gross) $56,200,000
Julie & Julia (Weekend Gross) $20,100,000 (Total Gross) $20,100,000
G-Force (Weekend Gross) $9,804,000 (Total Gross) $86,116,000
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Weekend Gross) $8,880,000 (Total Gross) $273,800,000
Funny People (Weekend Gross) $7,866,000 (Total Gross) $40,417,000
The Ugly Truth (Weekend Gross) $7,000,000 (Total Gross) $69,088,000
A Perfect Getaway (Weekend Gross) $5,765,000 (Total Gross) $5,765,000
Aliens in the Attic (Weekend Gross) $4,000,000 (Total Gross) $16,293,000
Orphan (Weekend Gross) $3,730,000 (Total Gross) $34,822,000
(500) Days of Summer (Weekend Gross) $3,725,000 (Total Gross) $12,343,000
The Hangover (Weekend Gross) $3,400,000 (Total Gross) $262,010,000
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Weekend Gross) $3,000,000 (Total Gross) $393,701,000

Not surprisingly, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra took the #1 spot. Julie & Julia also had a strong debut at #2, and I’ll be amazed if Meryl Streep doesn’t get yet another Oscar nomination for the role. Funny People fell to 5th place, and it’s still got a ways to go to match its $75 million budget. A Perfect Getaway didn’t exactly bowl anyone over with its 7th place debut, bringing in only $5.7 million for the thriller starring Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich. Things look bleak for Aliens in the Attic, as it’s garnered only $16.2 million in two weeks, despite a budget of $45 million. And in 12th place, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen continues to signal the end times by closing in on the $400 million mark despite being a pile of excrement.
