At least once a week, I try to include a section with the latest happenings from Hollywood. Guess what? It’s that time of the week, yo. Check back regularly for even more movie news.
1. Roger Friedman, a movie critic for the Fox News website, has been fired after posting a review of the recently leaked Wolverine film. Friedman seemed to take it in stride, saying. “Now on to new adventures.”
2. Jackie Chan has unveiled that his latest film will be known as Soldier. Currently filming in China on a $25 million budget, the movie is set during the Warring States Period in Chinese history. Lee Horn will co-star.
3. Kyle Gallner has been cast as one of the potential teen victims in New Lines reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street. As you might have read here last week, Jackie Earle Haley will be taking over the role of Freddie Krueger. Gallner previously appeared as The Flash on TV’s Smallville, plus he had a role in The Haunting in Connecticut.
4. Those geniuses over at the MPAA have given a NC-17 rating to Bruno, the upcoming comedy from Sacha Baron Cohen. The filmmakers will now have to make some edits before an R rating can be achieved (Borat went through the same thing). In the film, Cohen plays Bruno, a gay Austrian fashion expert. The film is scheduled to be released on July 10th.
5. Speaking of the MPAA, it looks like they’ve rejected an appeal by Judd Apatow and Harold Ramis to make the upcoming caveman comedy Year One (starring Jack Black and Michael Cera) a PG-13 movie. Instead, the movie will be rated R. Have I mentioned how much I hate the MPAA?
6. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes have signed on to play warring gods in the new Clash of the Titans movie. Neeson will play Zeus, the father of hero Perseus, while Fiennes will portray Hades, the ruler of the Greek underworld. Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos have already been cast.
7. Brittany Murphy and David Zayas have been added to the cast of Stallone’s latest project, The Expendables. Murphy will play the girlfriend of Mickey Rourke’s character, while Zayas will play an evil dictator (is there any other kind in Hollywood?).
8. Want to win a role in The Crazies, a horror flick inspired by the 1974 George Romero film of the same name? All you have to do is visit www.ebay.com/crazies and place your bid. The winner gets to play one of the rural townsfolk who are infected by a biological weapon. The auction ends at 7 pm PST on April 9th.
9. Al Pacino will play Napoleon in the upcoming family film Betsy and the Emperor. I’m hoping Napoleon will be introduced with the line, “Say hello to my little friend.”
10. Next week’s American Idol will feature a Hollywood theme. Guests for the week will be Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson and Quentin Tarantino.
