Brothers Movie Review – The tale of two brothers, one a decorated war vet (Tobey Maguire) and the other an ex-con (Jake Gyllenhaal). When the one is supposedly shot down over Afghanistan, the black sheep of the family finds a chance at redemption by caring for the grieving widow (Natalie Portman). But what happens when the soldier unexpectedly returns home carrying a dark secret? Review by Roxanne Downer.
Everybody’s Fine Movie Review – Robert De Niro stars as a father who decides to visit his children after they no-show him for a reunion. As each child is approached, the father begins to realize that he doesn’t know his kids as well as he thought. Also starring Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore, and Sam Rockwell. Review by Roxanne Downer.
Up in the Air Movie Review – George Clooney stars as a man who specializes in firing people. As he flies around the country performing his job, he connects with a variety of people, including a sexy fellow frequent flyer (Vera Farmiga). Meanwhile, he must convince an overly-efficient employee that his position is far too valuable to be performed via computer screen. Up in the Air is getting all kinds of Oscar buzz, and Gregor Turley tells us why.
DVD Movie Reviews
Hard Eight Movie Review – The first film from acclaimed director P.T. Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia) tells the story of the dangerous relationship between two men (John C. Reilly and Phillip Baker Hall) and the secret that could destroy them both. Also starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel L. Jackson.
Bound Movie Review – Corky (Gina Gershon) is a lesbian ex-con who gets seduced by Violet (Jennifer Tilly), the girlfriend of a violent mobster named Caesar. The steamy duo decides to steal a fortune in cash from the Mob and frame Caesar, but things manage to get dangerously complicated.
Sin Nombre Movie Review – A young girl rides on top of a Mexican train bound for the U.S. border to reunite with her estranged father. Also on board is a young gang member with a sense of morality that could prove fatal.
