Where Can I Watch Free Movies Online?

When I walk down the street, people are always coming up and asking me, “Where can I watch free movies online?” My first reply is usually something like “Get the hell away from me, you freak,” or “You smell like urine,” but then I normally calm down and try to give them an answer. To cut down on the number of people who accost me in public, I decided to put together an article looking at free movie downloads that are totally percent legal. So whether you’re searching for free streaming movies or the best free movies online, you should find something to meet your needs. And if you insist on going the pirated movie route, just do a Google search and you’ll find plenty of sites (just make sure you’ve got some mighty fine anti-virus software).

TV episodes & movies from Netflix – now instantly to your TV! Free trial

Hulu – Whenever I’m asked “Where can I watch free movies online?”, I always mention Hulu first. A joint venture between ABC, FOX, and NBC, Hulu allows users free access to a staggering array of free movies and TV shows. While it’s only available in the U.S. at this time, Hulu is dedicated to eventually expanding into the international market. Current television shows are available the day after they air, and you can enjoy programming from the following networks: USA, PBS, Bravo, Fuel, Speed, NFL Network, FX, Syfy, Sundance, E!, Versus, G4, Oxygen, A&E, and many more. Their selection of free online movies is pretty impressive, with many of them being films that were released in the last few years. Hulu can also be watched on your television with the proper hookup, and a small monthly fee will allow you to enjoy content on your iPod or other select portable devices.

YouTube – This site, best known for showing clips of funny babies and dramatic prairie dogs, offers a lot of free movies online. The films offered by YouTube proper are mostly of the public domain variety, although many more can be found courtesy of other users. The only downside is that many of these motion pictures are broken up into 10 minute segments. Still, if you’ve got a fast connection and don’t mind a brief interruption every 10 minutes, then it’s no big deal. Besides, when you finish you can listen to “Chocolate Rain” for the hundredth time.

FreeTubeTV – Hundreds of live Internet channels allow you to enjoy television shows, religious content, business, educational, sports, adult programming, and much more. Their selection of free movies online include comedy, drama, classics, crime, horror, mystery, science fiction, independent, and kung-fu.

Joost – With a number of licensing deals in place, visitors to Joost can enjoy programming from MTV, BET, Paramount Pictures, Warner Music, the National Hockey League, plus loads of news on celebrity gossip and scandals. And thanks to a new application, you can watch all the content from Joost on your portable devices.

Veoh – This site lets users watch free movies, TV shows, anime, music videos, film trailers, news, and so much more. Viewers can also chat with one another while they enjoy the latest movies, identifying themselves by 3D avatars, Facebook thumbnails, or webcam images.

FEARnet – If you want to legally watch streaming horror movies, then you could do a lot worse than this site. Selections are cycled regularly to avoid the same stuff coming up time after time, and most of the available films were made in the last 20 years. For those who’ve always wanted to see The Dentist for free, then you’ve reached your own personal nirvana.

TVchannelsfree.com – While a certain amount of free movies are offered at this site, their specialty is showing television programming from around the globe. Over 60 countries are represented, so you can enjoy works from North America, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and many more. If you’ve ever wanted to view the zany comic stylings of Saudi Arabia, then you’ve come to the right place.

Google Video – Google rules in every other area of the Internet, so why not the free online movie department? In addition to the free TV shows and films, you can also watch news reports, movie trailers, and the latest wacky happenings from around the globe (including people getting hit in the testicles and generally acting like fools). It’s kind of like YouTube, except it has Google’s massive power structure backing it up.

Fancast – A division of Comcast Interactive Media, Fancast allows users to watch movies, TV shows, film trailers, news, and editorial content. There’s no charge to use their site, and videos are presented at a larger size than most others. Some of the streaming TV shows currently available include Star Trek, South Park, Family Guy, Arrested Development, Friends, and CSI.

SideReel - Since it launched in 2007, SideReel has been dedicated to bringing their viewers the best in free movies online and free television shows online. A user generated site, SideReel includes tons of links to free content across the World Wide Web. In addition to being able to track TV shows and movies, participants can also rate what they’ve watched and discuss it with like-minded viewers. You’ll want to be careful when first starting, though, as some of these links may be less than reliable. Luckily, other users are good about pointing these links out and giving them a low rating, making the danger rather minimal.

So the next time some wild-eyed derelict staggers up and asks “Where can I watch free movies online?”, you’ll be more than prepared to answer. That answer, along with a fistful of loose change, should make them go away. The same answer also works well for friends, family, and co-workers, and you don’t even have to pay to get rid of them. Enjoy your free streaming movies, and don’t forget where you heard about them.
