Three 30ish guys, not yet ready to settle down, try to establish a fraternity on the campus of a local college.
Without being entirely riotous or entirely mindless, Old School finds a way to entertain. Decent characterizations and funny situational humor save this film from being a bore.
Each character has their shining moments to make us laugh, but the pace and structure of the picture is askew when taken in as a whole. Some gags are pretty funny but others fall flat and don’t go anywhere. There is lots of room to pepper the script with funny secondary characters, but besides a very old pledge who barely speaks and the omni-present fat kid we are denied here.
Despite its shortcomings, Old School should be able to satisfy those looking for a decent laugh.
Directed by Todd Phillips.
