So what are the good movies coming in 2012? As of this writing, that’s a few years in the future, but it won’t stop me from making some bold predictions. Whether you’re looking for the best movies of 2012 or the worst movies of 2012, this article should have you covered. Obviously, a lot of these predictions will be way off, so it might also be good for a laugh or two.

2012 Movies

If you’re looking for good movies coming in 2012, be sure and check out the following films. They’ve already been announced for a 2012 release, and they’ll no doubt be some of the highest-grossing films of 2012.

Newt

This animated feature from Pixar should be one of the biggest 2012 movies. The story revolves around the only remaining male and female from a species of amphibians. Scientists throw them together in order to keep the species alive, but Newt and Brooke find that they can’t stand one another. Faced with extinction, the two amphibians must find a way to fall in love for the sake of their kind. The film will be directed by Gary Rydstrom, and it should be the usual slam dunk for the boys and girls from Pixar.

King of the Elves

Good Movies Coming in 2012This animated 2012 Disney movie is being adapted from the story by Philip K. Dick In it, a young boy on the Mississippi Delta is recruited by elves to help them fight against an evil troll king.

Dick’s stories have also been the basis for movies such as Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, Next, and A Scanner Darkly. The film is expected to be directed by Robert Walker and Aaron Braise.

Chimpanzee

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about chimps, be sure and see Chimpanzee, one of the good movies coming in 2012. Shooting will last for three years in the jungles of Uganda and the Ivory Coast, and the picture will be co-directed by Mark Linfield and Alastair Fothergill. Like most nature movies produced by Disney, this film should evoke a wide range of emotions within the audience.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said of the film, “I think they’re (Disney) pushing towards 2012.” That’s good enough for me when it comes to making a list of the good movies coming in 2012. Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow, and you can probably count on Geoffrey Rush to make an appearance (especially since Sparrow and Captain Barbossa were racing off towards the Fountain of Youth at the end of the last film). Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley may not return, as the story of their characters has pretty much been told. Whatever the case, you can bet on Pirates of the Caribbean 4 being one of the biggest 2012 movie blockbusters.

2012 Movie Prediction

The future can sometimes be pretty vague, especially when discussing good movies coming in 2012. While the following films aren’t the least bit guaranteed, there’s a strong chance that we could see one or more of them emerge as the top movies of 2012.

Hoodwinked 3

In 2005, The Weinstein Company released Hoodwinked!, a computer animated comedy based on the folklore surrounding Little Red Riding Hood. It featured celebrity voices from Anne Hathaway, Glenn Close, Jim Belushi, Andy Dick, Xzibit and many others.

In 2010, Hoodwinked 2: Hood vs. Evil is expected to hit the theaters. Directed by Michael D’Isa-Hogan, it will follow the adventures of Red (Hayden Panettiere) as she investigates the disappearance of Hansel (Bill Hader), Gretel (Amy Poehler), and Mr. Alligator (Bill Murray). Along the way, she’ll team up with an investigative journalist named Wolf (the voice of Patrick Warburton).

Since the first film was a success, it’s reasonable to assume that the sequel will follow suit. It’s also reasonable to assume that a third film may follow. Since Hoodwinked 2 is coming out in 2010, I’m going to go out on a limb and predict Hoodwinked 3 will be released around the globe in December of 2012.

Prince of Persia 2

On May 28th, 2010, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will hit theaters. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Alfred Molina, Ben Kingsley and Gemma Arterton, this one is almost guaranteed to be a 2010 blockbuster. The plot concerns a Persian prince in the 6th century who teams up with a princess in order to rescue a time-controlling artifact from the clutches of the villainous Nizam (played by Ben Kingsley).

Prince of Persia has all kinds of franchise potential, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a sequel released a couple of years after the first film. For that reason, I’m thinking Prince of Persia 2 will be one of the good movies coming in 2012.

Toy Story 4

Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and Woody (Tom Hanks) will return on June 18th, 2010 in Toy Story 3. In the third film of the series, the toys must deal with life after their owner heads off to college. It’s sure to be a big success, and I can imagine a fourth Toy Story will follow this one. Can Pixar get all the computer animation done in time for a 2012 release? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Scream 5

Plans have already been made to start filming a new Scream film in 2009. Meant to re-start the franchise, the film is expected to hit theaters in 2010. If it does box-office business like the previous Scream films, expect Scream 5 to start shooting within a year of the previous movie’s release.

Conan

A new Conan movie is in the early stages of development. Brett Ratner has signed on to direct, and this one is supposed to be more faithful to the original stories of Robert E. Howard. By 2012, expect to see this reboot released in theaters. If the filmmakers really get things going, we might even see the sequel to Conan by 2012.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3

Michael Bay is producing a new entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Like the recent Friday the 13th flick, this film will be meant to restart the series. Shooting will begin in 2009, and the film is scheduled to be released on April 16th, 2010. By 2012, we should be nearing the release of the third film.

The A-Team 2

A movie adaptation of this classic television show is scheduled for June 11th, 2010. I’ll be amazed if this one isn’t a hit, which means Hollywood will be looking to make a sequel as soon as possible. Expect it to hit theaters in 2012.

Star Trek 2

When you’re looking for good movies coming in 2012, don’t forget about the possibility of a second Star Trek film. The reboot–directed by J.J. Abrams–will land in theaters on May 8th, 2009, and it should bring in a whole new generation of Trekkies. Before it even leaves the theaters, I imagine plans will be underway for a sequel.

X-Men Origins: Storm

Wolverine gets an origin story in 2009, so why not Storm in 2012? The biggest problem will be luring Halle Berry back to reprise the role, but they can always get someone else if need be.

Transformers: Rise of the Dinobots

By this point in the franchise, the producers will be looking for a new way to market action figures and toys. Enter the Dinobots, the fiercest Transformers to ever wage war against the Decepticons. Shia LaBeouf will have long since departed the series, but Meagan Fox will once again return to lend her sex appeal to the film.
