10 Good Stoner Movies

If you like to get baked, check out these 10 good stoner movies. Not only is marijuana prominently featured in each of the following films, but it’s a perfect excuse to fire one up yourself. And, yes, I was going to include Pineapple Express on the list, but I got hungry and went to the store to get some nachos instead.

Netflix carries all the movies listed below, and heading there via our link will result in us getting a small commission. Be a pal. After all, how else are we gonna afford our weed?

Next Friday (2000) – Craig Jones (Ice Cube) heads to the suburbs in this sequel to Friday. But the hood is starting to look awfully good, as he must contend with a pair of escaped felons, a Mexican gang, and the possible eviction of his sex-obsessed uncle. Sadly, Smokey (Chris Tucker) is nowhere to be found.

Super Troopers (2001) – The guys from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe star as a bunch of immature Vermont state troopers. Obsessed with playing pranks on each other and unsuspecting citizens, the group must pull themselves together when faced with a murder, a drug-smuggling ring, and state budget cuts that threaten to put them all in the unemployment line.

Reefer Madness (1936) – Meant to caution young people about the dangers of pot, it’s become a cult classic due to its outrageous depictions of marijuana leading to rape, manslaughter, and suicide. Unintentionally hilarious, it’s a must-see when it comes to good stoner movies.

Grandma’s Boy (2006) – Allen Covert stars as Alex, a 35-year-old video game designer who is forced to live with his grandma (Doris Roberts) after his roommate blows their rent money on Filipino hookers. The rest of the film features Alex trying to develop his own video game, woo the new office babe (Linda Cardellini), and get one over on a pretentious co-worker who dreams of having metal legs. Produced by Adam Sandler and starring many familiar faces (such as Peter Dante).

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) – Everyone’s favorite pot dealers, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (director Kevin Smith), head to California when they find out the comic book based on their lives, Bluntman and Chronic, is being turned into a movie. Along the way, they encounter a group of female diamond thieves (including Eliza Dushku, Shannon Elizabeth, and Ali Larter), an obsessed wildlife official (Will Ferrell), an orangutan named Suzanne, and the musical stylings of Morris Day and The Time.

Half Baked (1998) – If you know the double meaning of the phrase “I wanna talk to Samson,” then you’ve probably already seen this cult classic starring Dave Chappelle and Jim Breuer. When their buddy gets thrown in jail, a trio of potheads named Thurgood (Chappelle), Brian (Breuer), and Scarface (Guillermo Diaz) steal some marijuana from a lab and begin selling it to raise bail money. They must then deal with a jealous drug dealer, the ghost of Jerry Garcia, and Thurgood’s anti-drug girlfriend named Mary Jane Potman (Rachel True).

The Stoned Age (1994) – Set in the ‘70s, a pair of hard-rockin’ stoners search for weed, try to get laid, and debate the merits of Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper.” Clifton Collins Jr, co-stars, but he’s billed as Clifton Gonzalez Gonzalez.

Super High Me (2007) – Billed as Super Size Me with pot instead of McDonald’s, this documentary follows comic Doug Benson as he abstains from cannabis for 30 days and then uses it 30 days in a row. The effects of smoking weed are measured, and stoner hottie Sarah Silverman makes a guest appearance.

Puff, Puff, Pass (2006) – A couple of stoners decide to make their fortune placing tiny classified ads (just like that jerk in those infomercials). In the meantime, they get mixed up in a plot to steal a valuable collection of pennies, and they stress over possibly missing a 24-hour marathon of The Shawshank Redemption.

Friday (1995) – Two pals, Craig (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker), get in trouble with a local pot dealer and must come up with $200 or get killed. Along the way, they rub elbows with an assortment of eccentric characters, including a little person (Tony Cox), a horny preacher (Bernie Mac), the local bully (Tommy Lister Jr.), and a woman who’s supposed to look like Janet Jackson (Yvette Wilson).
