Films Similar to American Pie

Since the 1999 teen sex comedy features Jason Biggs sticking his penis into a warm dessert dish, it’s hard to categorize most features as being like American Pie. There are plenty that come close, however, so I proudly present this list of movies dedicated to horny teens, awkward sexual encounters, and delectable babes. In short: movies like American Pie.

Netflix offers all of these flicks for one low monthly price, and they have subscription plans to meet almost any budget. If you’ve never been a member, click here for a free trial membership from Netflix. I’ve been part of the club since 2005, and I couldn’t be happier.

Road Trip (2000) – After accidentally sending his girlfriend a tape of himself engaged in a bedroom romp with another woman (Amy Smart), college student Josh Parker (Breckin Meyer) must travel cross-country in an effort to intercept the package before it reaches her dorm. This leads to all manner of shenanigans, especially when his pals (Seann William Scott, Paul Costanzo, and DJ Qualls) wind up accompanying him. Meanwhile, a dormmate played by Tom Green relates Josh’s tale to a group of prospective college students. Also starring Fred Ward and Andy Dick, the film would spawn a direct-to-DVD sequel.

Bachelor Party (1984) – Before he became a major Hollywood player, Tom Hanks starred in this shameless comedy about a guy trying to resist temptation at his own bachelor party. Eighties icon Tawny Kitaen co-stars as the bride-to-be, and the film is oddly based on an actual bachelor party thrown by the producers.

Revenge of the Nerds (1984) – Robert Carradine and Anthony Edwards star as nerds who form their own fraternity after being displaced by the brutish jocks. A major hit at the box office, Revenge of the Nerds spawned three sequels and co-starred John Goodman, Bernie Casey, Ted McGinley, Curtis Armstrong, and Donald Gibb as “The Ogre.”

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) – While Amy Heckerling (Clueless) directs, the screenplay is written by Cameron Crowe and based on the novel he wrote while undercover at a San Diego high school. Played out over an entire year, this genre-defining teen comedy follows students at Ridgemont High School as they fall in and out of love, party, and battle authority figures like the fuddy-duddy Mr. Hand (Ray Walston). You’ll recognize a ton of then-youthful faces, including Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates, Nicolas Cage, Anthony Edwards, Eric Stoltz, and Forest Whitaker.

EuroTrip (2004) – For years, nice guy Scotty Thomas (Scott Mechlowicz) mistook his German pen pal for a guy. After learning differently–and being dumped by his slutty girlfriend (Kristin Kreuk) just after graduation–he resolves to travel to Germany and proclaim his feelings. He’s joined by a trio of pals, including the worst twins in the world (Travis Wester and Michelle Trachtenberg), and their jaunt across Europe includes run-ins with soccer hooligans (including Vinnie Jones), Amsterdam prostitutes (including Lucy Lawless), jealous mimes, kids who look like Hitler, and a magical green fairy. A bizarre comedy romp featuring a Matt Damon cameo as the singer in a college band.

Porky’s (1982) – Set in 1954, this Bob Clark (A Christmas Story, Black Christmas) raunchfest revolves around a group of high school students trying to lose their virginity while also gaining revenge on a seedy bar owner. Two sequels would follow, and be sure to keep an eye out for Kim Cattrall in an early role as a girl who howls like a dog during sex.

Zapped! (1982) – A ridiculously stupid film, Zapped! should still generate laughs, whether intentional or not. Scott Baio stars as a nerd who gets telekinetic powers thanks to a lab accident, and he wastes no time in using these abilities to raise the skirts of attractive girls (especially Heather Thomas). Willie Aames co-stars as his perverted pal, a pairing that would be revisited two years later during Charles in Charge. If you enjoy gratuitous nudity from the ‘80s, be sure to give it a look (although Thomas sadly uses a body double).

Superbad (2007) – One of many hits from producer Judd Apatow, this comedy stars Michael Cera and Jonah Hill as a pair of buddies who are about to graduate and head to different colleges. But before they do so, they plan to party and bed their girls of their dreams (including Emma Stone). Bill Hader and co-writer Seth Rogen are a pair of juvenile cops, while Christopher Mintz-Plasse will forever be known for his role as “McLovin.”

Risky Business (1983) – Tom Cruise became a bona fide movie star thanks to this film about a high schooler who winds up sleeping with a prostitute (Rebecca De Mornay) and becoming a pimp while his parents are on vacation. The scene with Cruise in his underwear and dancing to Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” has become one of the most iconic images in modern cinema.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999) – Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles raised their Hollywood stock by starring in this romantic comedy based on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” Joseph Gordon-Levitt co-stars as a high school student obsessed with dating a girl who’s only allowed to do so if her disagreeable older sister (Styles) also dates. To fix his problem, he hires charming classmate Patrick Verona (Ledger) to sweep the young woman off her feet.

The next time you’re in the mood to see a combination of sexual hijinks and future stars, give a few movies like American Pie a try. These films won’t make you a better person or explore the complexities of the human condition, but they will drop F-bombs, expose natural boobs, and generally make you pee yourself from laughing.
