2010 Indy 500 – Racing Movie Links

Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 7:23 am

The 94th annual Indianapolis 500 race will be taking place Sunday, May 30th, at 1pm on ABC. Considered one the three major motorsports events, the Indy 500 draws an average attendance of 400,000, with millions more watching around the world. Jack Nicholson will be the honorary starter this year, and Jewel will attempt to sing the national anthem and sell some poetry books.

This is normally where I would introduce a list of Good Racing Movies or something similar to tie into the event, but then I realized that OGM already has such articles. So instead, I’ll provide some links to racing-related posts from the past, as well as give a rundown on the starting order for this Sunday’s Indy 500.

Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines!

And for you diehard Indy 500 fans, here’s the starting order for Sunday’s race. 33 drivers will be competing to drink the celebratory bottle of milk in Victory Lane, and it’s a record year for the number of female drivers (four). While drivers Jay Howard, Paul Tracy, Milka Duno, and Jaques Lazier all failed to qualify, fan favorite (and last year’s winner) Helio Castronenves got the pole position for the second straight year.
