When I need to find information on cinema, I naturally turn to my favorite movie links for assistance. Anyone who’s passionate about film probably has a few sites they routinely check, and this article is dedicated to mine. Admittedly, you’ve probably heard of most of them, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t sing their praises when I had the chance. So sit back, get comfortable, and prepare to learn about some of the hottest movie links going today. And by the way, each entry has a link that’ll take you straight to the site in question.

Ain’t It Cool News– First of all, I hate the names of the people who write for the site (Quint, Massawyrm…really?), but there’s no disputing that Ain’t It Cool News has a buttload of information when it comes to movies, TV, comic books, and DVD releases. Thanks to Harry Knowles’ (owner and operator of AICN) relentless schmoozing with the likes of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, he does manage to routinely scoop the competition. In addition, the site is constantly offering some kind of contest or giveaway, so it’s the perfect destination for both cinephiles and cheapskates alike. The movie reviews are a little suspect–especially the ones by fanboy Knowles–but it’s still a fun site brimming with all the latest information.
Box Office Mojo– Every week, I end up asking myself the same damn question: What’s opening in theatres this Friday? Thanks to Box Office Mojo, I’m never left wondering for long. And not only do they offer a rundown of all the major and minor releases coming to a cinema near you, but they’re positively relentless about offering weekly, yearly, and daily updates on how each film performed at the box office. Want to know which film was #1 on December 3rd of 1982? Turn to Box Office Mojo for the answer. There’s also a forum (ribbed, for her pleasure), and readers are invited to rate movies and contribute to their overall ranking.
Internet Movie Database – When it comes to providing information on film and television shows, nobody else on this list of movie links even comes close to the Internet Movie Database. In addition to movie news, celebrity interviews, and exacting details on films both foreign and domestic, the IMDB offers the latest movie trailers and a constantly updated list of the most popular motion pictures (as voted on by their readers). You’ll be hard-pressed to find a film that’s not listed on their site, and paying a reasonable monthly fee will also provide you with in-depth information on your favorite performers (including contact info for their agents and publicists). If you need to know about a specific film, you’d be crazy to start anywhere else.
Variety – A trade publication for the entertainment industry, Variety offers up all the latest news without the fanboy jibber-jabber of other sites. Since they’re actually plugged into Hollywood, you can expect their information to be as up-to-date as possible. The film industry is their primary emphasis, but they also offer detailed sections on television, music, and technology. Their features on cinema are both informative and well-written, and they cover the indie scene and film festivals with equal gusto. If you want a serious take on Hollywood (or Bollywood, for that matter), be sure to give Variety a try.
Netflix– Yes, we have an affiliate relationship with America’s largest online movie rental firm, but it should also be noted that I’ve been a member since 2005. I would never dream of steering our readers in the wrong direction, so believe me when I say that Netflix is darn near unbeatable when it comes to offering a wide array of films through the mail or via online streaming. Whether you’re looking for one movie at a time or eight, Netflix will have you covered (for a monthly fee). Their descriptions of films aren’t as detailed as IMDB, but they’re still good enough to let you know what you’re getting into (the member reviews will fill in any gaps). Once you’ve found the movie you’re looking for, you’re going to need a place to rent it. Netflix is that place.
