Good Movie Sites

When someone asks me to suggest good movie sites, I get a twinkle in my eye just like ‘ol Santa does after he’s downed a bottle of bourbon. The following list contains a mixture of blogs, news, and even review sites. Check them out, bookmark ’em, and come back later for more high-quality recommendations from Only Good Movies.

Jabootu’s Bad Movie Dimension – Since 1997, this site has been dedicated to the worst films in cinematic history. If there’s any doubt, just feast your eyes on the Steven Seagal picture at the top of the page. Forums, blog, movie reviews of cheesy-bad films, and so much more.

DVD Verdict – A great resource for anyone who wants to know exactly what’s being released on DVD the coming week. There are also tons of DVD movie reviews, TV episode reviews, video game reviews, podcasts, and forums.

Parent Previews – If you’re a parent who actually cares what your kid is watching, then you should take a look at this site devoted to movie reviews. They separate the offensive from the family-oriented and manage to do it all in a well-written fashion. After all, you wouldn’t want your little tween wandering into a showing of Antichrist, now would you?

IMAX Movies – If you’re one of those people who insists on seeing as many IMAX films as you can, you’ll be delighted to know that IMAX has their own site which lists showtimes, as well as the location of IMAX theaters around the globe. Personally, the IMAX in Beijing, China sounds like it would be a hoot.

Final Girl – Stacie Ponder is a cutie with a passion for horror films, especially those from the ’70s and ’80s. Her blog is filled with plenty of wit and biting sarcasm, and she also offers lots of modern-day movie review goodness. She’s also an independent filmmaker, which just serves to make her that much cooler.

Drews Script-O-Rama – For fans of movie transcripts and movie scripts, this is the place to go. The site also offers quizzes, TV scripts, and even haiku!

The Movie Spoiler – Want to know how a recently released movie ends, but you don’t want to have to pay for the privilege? Then feast your eyes on The Movie Spoiler, a site updated weekly with the endings to every major Hollywood release (and even a few indy films, as well). Submit a spoiler, and, if it gets used, you’ll snag yourself a $10 iTunes gift certificate.

Variety – The movie portion of this site is chock full movie news, movie reviews, photos, videos, opinions, and results from the weekend box office. One of Hollywood’s legit trade magazines, it’s the perfect place to get reliable info on the cinematic scene. One of my personal favorites.

Movie Mobsters – Heather, Jim, and Marc weigh in with movie reviews and plenty of Top 10 lists such as “Top 10 Bromances” and “40 Greatest Movie Death Scenes.” Heather is also a super sweet gal, as evidenced by her participation in our Critical Mass interview series. You can read Heather’s interview right the eff here.

Box Office Mojo – Wanna know which movie was #1 at the box office this weekend? Check with this site. How about the #1 movie at the box office in January of 1977? Yep, this site has that, too. God bless you, Box Office Mojo.

Invasion of the B Movies – Since 2003, a man named Jason Soto has fought a tireless battle to shine a spotlight on the worst movies in existence. And besides his movie reviews, he also offers a blog where he waxes philosophic about such screen gems as Woodchipper Massacre. Hell to the yeah!

When I launch “Ballard Andy’s Movie Mega-Emporium”, you’ll have to update your list of good movie sites. Because my new site is going to rule.

That’s a mighty fine title for a website. Can’t wait to see it.

Love those spoliers, but Movie Mobsters isn’t what I would consider a “good movie site.”
