Artie Lange’s Beer League (2006) – As the name might imply, Artie Lange is the star of the show in this intoxicating if somewhat lowbrow tale of a group of softball slobs who prepare to take on their rivals in the league championship. Also starring Ralph Macchio, Seymour Cassel, and Cara Buono.

Sideways (2004) – Wine lover will delight in this smart comedy-drama about an aspiring writer (Paul Giamatti) who takes his soon-to-be-married pal (Thomas Hayden Church) on a trip to the wine country of Santa Barbara County and falls in love along the way. The merits of wine are discussed at length, and the film co-stars Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh.

Arthur (1981) – Not all movie alcoholics are pathetic, and millionaire playboy Arthur Bach (Dudley Moore) is the perfect example. Christopher Cross serves up the hit theme song (“Arthur’s Theme”), and Moore and Liza Minnelli provide the comedic chemistry. But it was British actor John Gielgud who walked away with an Academy Award, receiving Best Supporting Actor honors for his dry portrayal of Arthur’s long-suffering butler.

Beerfest (2006) – Put together by comedy troupe Broken Lizard, this hard-drinking comedy revolves around a pair of brothers who journey to Germany to spread their grandfather’s ashes and wind up at an underground beer-drinking event. After being humiliated, they recruit a number of their drinking buddies from college and return for revenge. Everyone from Willie Nelson to Cloris Leachman puts in an appearance.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) – While this adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel features way more drug use than drinking, it’ll still get you in the mood to tie one on. Johnny Depp stars as Raoul Duke, a thinly-veiled version of Thompson, and Benicio del Toro co-stars as his hard-partying attorney, Dr. Gonzo. While on assignment to cover a race in Las Vegas, Duke and Gonzo burn through a suitcase filled with pharmaceutical delights, pick up an underage girl (Christina Ricci), and inadvertently terrorize a hitchhiker (Tobey Maguire) somewhere in the middle of “Bat Country.”

Strange Brew (1983) – Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis take their SCTV creations Bob and Doug McKenzie to the big screen, and the beer-loving Canucks must save the planet from an evil brewmeister (Max von Sydow) intent on placing everyone under mind-control. Just good, dumb fun.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009) – The movie itself isn’t that good, but this adaptation of the Tucker Max book will allow you to unleash your inner frat boy and relish in drunken antics, sex with midgets, and a bevy of other embarrassing situations. If you know someone who thinks of themselves as sophisticated, put this in the DVD player just to annoy them.

Bottle Shock (2008) – While it’s less crude than some of the films on this list, Bottle Shock offers plenty of opportunities to get toasted while learning about the first time that a California wine defeated a French brand in a blind taste test. Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, and Chris Pine star.

The Hangover (2009) – While getting drunk can be a lot of fun, the morning after is often a nightmare. Case in point: this film about a group of pals (including Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper, and Zach Galifianakis) who head to Vegas for a bachelor party and wind up misplacing the groom. Forced to retrace their steps from the night before, they’re continually shocked to learn of their debauchery. Mike Tyson shows off his air drum skills, and Ken Jeong assured himself of a career playing wacky Asians.

From Dusk till Dawn (1996) – When Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez combine for a film, you know the results are going to be off-the-wall. George Clooney and Tarantino play a pair of criminal brothers trying to make it to Mexico, and they wind up kidnapping a family that includes Harvey Keitel as a preacher who’s lost his faith. But when they reach their destination, the group is shocked to find a strip club/brothel filled with vampires. Salma Hayek looks amazing with a snake draped around her curvy body, and Cheech Marin delivers an uproarious monologue about the various kinds of pussy.
