• December 28th, 2009 – The nomination ballots were mailed out.
• January 24th, 2010 – The nomination polls were closed.
• February 2nd, 2010 – The nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards will be unveiled at 8:38 EST from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California. The nominations will be announced by actress Anne Hathaway and Tom Sherak, the current president of the Academy.
• February 10th, 2010 – The final date for Oscar ballots to be mailed.
• February 20th, 2010 – The Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards are presented.
• March 2nd, 2010 – The polls close for Oscar voting.
• Sunday, March 7th, 2010 – The Oscars Red Carpet (the pre-show for the Academy Awards) will air live at 7:30 EST and 6:30 CST on ABC. This affords housewives across America a chance to say tacky things about the various styles worn (or barely worn, as the case might be) by actresses.

• The top Oscar ceremony based on Nielsen ratings took place on April 7th, 1970. During the 42nd Annual Academy Awards, just over 43 percent of American households tuned in to watch Midnight Cowboy win Best Picture.
• The ceremony with the least viewers and lowest ratings was the 80th Annual Academy Awards on February 24th, 2008 (with less than 19 percent of U.S. households tuning in). No Country for Old Men picked up the Oscar for Best Picture during this event.
