Robot Movies List
I’m hoping this robot movies list will provide some alternatives to your usual viewing choices. Sure, you can watch Tony Soprano whack someone for the umpteenth time, or you can slide one of these bad boys into your DVD or Blu-ray player and have a ball. From new robot movies to robot movies of the ‘70s, this list was designed to cover several decades. And keep in mind that I’m not claiming these are the best robot movies ever made. I’m simply saying that you might want to give them a look. Besides, they’re all available through Netflix, so you really don’t have an excuse, do you?
1. Hardware (1990) – In a post-apocalyptic future, a soldier brings his artist girlfriend the busted remains of a military robot. Little do they know that the killing machine is still operational, and it wastes no time in reconstructing itself with items from around the house. This robot movie of the 90s features a great soundtrack with Ministry, Iggy Pop, Public Image Ltd. and many other awesome acts.
2. Robocop (1987) – Peter Weller became a star playing a cop killed in the line of duty and resurrected as a cyborg peacekeeper. It spawned a number of crappy sequels, but the original definitely belongs on any good robot movies list.
3. Nemesis (1993) – A policeman with several cybernetic parts is forced to undertake a mission to track down terrorists and his former lover. Loads of stylized gunplay and martial arts, plus one of the greatest nude scenes of all time. It spawned three sequels, none of which were as good as the first.
4. Westworld (1973) – Two buddies decide to take a vacation to a theme park where customers can live out fantasies via robotic servants. But when the park’s systems go haywire, people start getting killed off by the malfunctioning staff. Yul Brynner famously plays an artificial gunfighter who relentlessly stalks the film’s hero. One of the greatest of the robot movies of the 70s.
5. Blade Runner (1982) – Perhaps the most critically lauded of robot movies of the 80s, Blade Runner tells the story of a ex-cop hunting down a gang of homicidal runaway “replicants.” Harrison Ford plays the ex-cop, Rutger Hauer is the leader of the replicants, and Sean Young is the replicant love interest who doesn’t realize that she isn’t human. A bit overrated in my book, but it’s still a must-see for fans of science fiction.
6. WALL-E (2008) – When it comes to new robot movies, it’s hard to beat this tale of a little sanitation robot who falls in love. There’s minimal dialogue compared to most movies, and WALL-E is a perfect example of how a film can be entertaining without talking your ear off.
7. Lost in Space (1998) – The big-screen adaptation of the classic TV series stars William Hurt, Mimi Rogers, Lacey Chabert, Heather Graham, Matt Le Blanc and Gary Oldman. “Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!”
8. Aliens (1986) – Sigourney Weaver returns as Ripley in this James Cameron blockbuster. She accompanies a group of space marines to a distant mining colony where it’s believed that the lethal xenomorphs have struck. When they arrive, all hell breaks loose in a flurry of gunfire and acid-spitting horror. The robot element comes into play with Bishop (Lance Heinriksen), a likable synthetic who makes Ripley more than a little nervous (watch the original Alien and you’ll understand why).
9. Short Circuit (1986) – A robot intended for military use is struck by lightning and gains sentience. It rejects its former programming and seeks a more peaceful existence, eventually taking the name Johnny 5. A lighthearted sci-fi comedy starring Steve Guttenberg, Ally Sheedy and Fisher Stevens. Directed by John Badham, the man behind Saturday Night Fever and WarGames.
10. The Stepford Wives (1975) – While it hardly set the box office on fire back in ‘75, this version of The Stepford Wives has garnered a cult following over the years and become known as one of the best robot movies of the 70s. A young woman (Katharine Ross) and her husband move to Stepford, Connecticut, but they slowly realize that things are somehow too perfect there, especially the smiling, submissive housewives.

My kids and I were trying to remember a movie… there is a robot suit a young boy gets in it. I think the suit is alive. I also remember a scene where he eats a hamburger in it and there is a poop problem, I don’t think he can get out. I hope you can figure it out and would really apriciate it!

What is the movie called when theres robots with guns built on their arms they have a wearhouse and a cop is the main character his dark skin friend die a guy in the gas station dies by one of the robots?? I dont remember the name it is a old movie that i had on a vcr tape
