2010 MTV Movie Awards – Winners and Highlights
Every year round this time, the MTV Movie Awards are held, and 2010 wasn’t any different. Aziz Ansari performed the hosting duties, and the show was filled with wacky goings-on, both spontaneous and carefully planned to at least appear spontaneous. While the suits and producers of the network come up with the nominations, the general public determines the winners by voting online. And since Twilight: New Moon was nominated in numerous categories, you can already get a sense of where this is heading. Never underestimate the power of a tween with a cellphone.
I’ll start things off by listing the nominees and winners for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Afterwards, I’ll detail a few of the most memorable moments from the show, including a noted Scientologist getting jiggy with it, and the yearly girl-on-girl liplock.

2010 MTV Movie Awards Highlights
Now that you know who took home those awards made to look like buckets of popcorn, check out this brief list of memorable events from the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.
- The yearly faux bisexual kiss came when Sandra Bullock mounted the stage to accept the Generation award, which is the MTV Movie Award’s version of a lifetime achievement honor. Betty White, Bradley Cooper, and Scarlett Johansson were there to act as presenters, and Bullock caused plenty of flashbulbs to go off when she planted one on the mouth of Johannson, the wife of The Proposal co-star Ryan Reynolds. “Now that we have done that,” Bullock said, “can we please go back to normal, because therapy is really expensive.” She later added, “I love what I do. And I’m not going anywhere.”
- Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, stars of the upcoming film The Other Guys, wind up suspended in the air during the telecast. When Tom Felton from Harry Potter comes out to accept his award for Best Villain and starts thanking his girlfriend, Wahlberg, pretending to be fed up with his predicament, shouts, “Are you serious? Come on! This ain’t the fuc*ing Oscars!”
- Ed Helms (in a cloud-like costume) comes out to perform the ballad “Doug” from The Hangover, and he’s joined by co-star Ken Jeong. Best known for the scene where he jumps out of a car’s trunk fully nude, Jeong offers an interpretive dance performance in a revealing tiger-print leotard.
- Tom Cruise takes the stage as Les Grossman, the crude movie exec from Tropic Thunder, and he’s soon sharing the spotlight with J-Lo. The duo launch into a duet of “Get Right” and take turns slapping each other on the ass. Katie Holmes, meanwhile, grins like a zombie and briefly reminds men why they used to lust after her.
- Aubrey Plaza from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World comes out (along with the rest of the cast) to announce the nominees for Best WTF Moment. When she gets to nominee Megan Fox, Plaza says, “Megan Fox, I have always wanted to fu*k you. And when you threw up on Amanda Seyfried in Jennifer’s Body, it made me want to fu*k you more. Wherever you are tonight, I’m going to find you, and fu*k you.”
- While presenting the award for Best Kiss, Russell Brand and Jonah Hill of Get Him to the Greek share a sloppy, make-out session.
- After winning the award for Best Kiss, Twilight co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart tease the audience with a kiss that never happens. Numerous squeals of delight are heard around the country.
- Earlier in the evening, he danced around like a freak, but after winning the Best WTF Moment award, Ken Jeong goes all serious and thanks his wife, a breast cancer survivor, for inspiring him to follow his dreams. Jeong, you see, was a licensed physician before changing gears and becoming a doctor.
